GOOD Statement by Matthew Cook,
GOOD National Chairperson and City of Johannesburg Councillor
02 November 2025
The GOOD Party is deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic drive-by shooting in Reiger Park, Boksburg, in which six people were reportedly killed and three others wounded.
Our hearts go out to the families of the victims, the injured, and the entire Reiger Park community, who have once again been left traumatised by senseless violence. This brutal act is yet another painful reminder of the urgent need to confront violent crime in South Africa, where reckless gunfire has become an all-too-common reality for many communities.
We call on the South African Police Service (SAPS) to act with urgency and utilise every available resource to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible. There must be full transparency in the investigation to ensure that justice is not only done, but also seen to be done.
GOOD remains committed to the fight for safer neighbourhoods and to tackling the root causes of violence, including unemployment, youth disenfranchisement, and the growing influence of gangs. These underlying issues must be addressed decisively if we are to prevent further loss of life.
No family should have to mourn loved ones lost in a hail of bullets. No community should go to bed fearing that gunmen could strike again. Our communities deserve better. The people of Reiger Park deserve better.
We urge all political parties, community leaders, and civil society organisations to come together and reject violence in all its forms. Let this tragedy serve as a turning point for meaningful reform, not just another addition to South Africa’s crime statistics.
*The GOOD Party is a founding member of UNITE FOR CHANGE.
