Mark Rountree, National Policy Officer for GOOD

GOOD welcomes reports that DFFE has rejected the powership applications.
GOOD has always maintained these deals should be sunk.
Climate change is already negatively impacting weather patterns, biodiversity and food production.
Instead of taking steps to mitigate climate risk, the proposed use of powerships was a step in the fundamentally wrong direction.
More fossil fuel-generated electricity is bad for our country and the world. It is not a distant but a present threat. Already, more than 2000 people die annually from fossil-fuel related air pollution in South Africa, alone.
GOOD reiterates its calls for more solar and wind generated renewable energy to be introduced to the grid.
Renewable energy is the cheapest for our pockets and also the best for our health and the planet. It is always a GOOD time to do the right thing.
