The GOOD Party extends its heartfelt condolence to those who have lost loved ones in the Johannesburg fire tragedy.
Our thoughts are with those who are recovering in hospital and with the family and friends who are desperately awaiting news of missing loved ones.
A five-story building caught alight in Marshalltown in the early hours of the morning.
The building was owned by the City of Johannesburg but was hijacked after being rented to an NGO.
Johannesburg EMS has contained the fire but search and rescue operations are still ongoing.
The death toll has already entered the seventies, with over fifty having been confirmed injured at the time of writing this.
As GOOD we commend the work of the Emergency Service teams who have worked tirelessly through the night.
GOOD has sent the Gauteng caucus to the scene to assess the needs of the survivors.
A tragedy of this magnitude calls on the country to unite and support our brothers and sisters regardless of nationality, race or social standing.
We must transcend political party divisions, to support the victims.
