We are deeply saddened and disturbed by the fires that are destroying parts of our parliamentary precinct.
Our national parliament is the peoples’ house of democracy. The buildings are the spaces that host the outcomes of hard-won elections. They are where the people shall govern.
The GOOD party has its parliamentary offices in the Old Assembly building and it appears that our office suite has been completely gutted.
I was on the precinct this morning and was able to observe firefighters on a skylift fighting the flames that appeared to be raging in our offices.
We will await official confirmation of what parts of the precinct have been damaged, and to what extent, but from my onsite observation it seems that our offices have been destroyed by the fires.
We thank the firefighters for their rapid response and for the valiant effort currently underway to kill the fires.
Like the rest of the country we are eager to understand the cause of the fires.
