AN IMPORTANT BRIDGE ACROSS GLOBAL INEQUALITY

6 May 2021

GOOD welcomes the US government’s support for waiving intellectual property protections for Covid-19 vaccines.

Waiving IP protections will effectively make more vaccines available to people and nations in the global South who lack the resources of their northern peers.

GOOD has consistently advocated following the science in the fight against the pandemic.

The science points to the necessity for global vaccinations to save lives and prevent hospitals from being overrun.

Such a global programme would not be possible if the developers of vaccines held the world to ransom by charging top dollar for their products.

To overcome the virus, we and all other nations require equitable and affordable access to vaccines.

In the spirit of global Ubuntu, the US government has signaled that the health of all nations in the global village counts.
