GOOD Statement by Brett Herron
GOOD Secretary General

16 October 2024

The GOOD Party is pleased to welcome two new councillors to our team in the City of Cape Town.

Roscoe Palm and Wesley Neumann have been appointed to fill the two GOOD vacancies in Council.

As GOOD, we are confident their wealth of experience, as well as their commitment to service delivery and community development, will continue to serve the best interests of the residents.

Roscoe Palm is an activist to the core. He has a wealth of political insight having worked as a political writer and analyst.

Palm says ‘The opportunity to be a public representative is the privilege of my life, one that I won’t take for granted. I commit to exposing the failures of the weakest DA caucus in the history of this divided city. The working and middle class deserve better governance and better opposition. I look forward to contributing to a political project with a powerful vision for the future of this city.’

Wesley Neumann holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. He is the Former principal of Heathfield High. Neumann has been in a lengthy battle with the Western Cape Education after he was unceremoniously dismissed after refusing to reopen the school during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Neumann remains committed to his decision, citing safety concerns for his staff, pupils and the community at large.

Neumann says ‘I have devoted my entire adult life to education and service to my community. I was encouraged to take the opportunity offered by the leadership of GOOD to continue to advocate for better and equal access to facilities for the communities of the oppressed and marginalised. ‘

GOOD follows an open application process to fill its public representative vacancies – inviting all of its members to apply – and then a rigorous selection process which includes two distinct phases: a shortlisting process followed by an interview and assessment phase.

The integrity of our selection process is important to ensure that the most suitable councillors are selected from the vast pool of talent and skills.

GOOD remains steadfast in its pursuit of a fairer South Africa characterised by economic, spatial, environmental and social justice for all – including for all the people of Cape Town.
