The GOOD Party is pleased to welcome its George leader Donovan Saptoe home.
Saptoe has been instrumental in building the GOOD party, not only in George, but in the broader region, and has been a key player in the party’s growing success.
He is passionate about his community, and representing it well. However Saptoe said the pressure of the job and frustration at the slow pace of change in the region recently over-boiled which led to him taking a decision to step out of his position as GOOD councillor in the Garden Route District Municipality.
Saptoe reconsidered this decision after constructive discussions with the party, and has recommitted himself to serving the people of George under the GOOD banner.
“We are very pleased to have him back to play a leading role in the 2024 election campaign, especially in the Garden Route District,” said GOOD Secretary-General Brett Herron. “He is a genuine community leader.”
Saptoe said he was very grateful to the GOOD leadership for its openness and integrity. “When job pressure and frustration gets you down, it is good leadership that picks you up and re-fires your enthusiasm to contribute,” he said.
“My decision to step away caught many people off-guard, including the GOOD leadership. I owe them, and all the people who believed in and voted for GOOD, a sincere apology.
“Those who know me, know that I will never give up fighting for my community. Having reconsidered my decision, there is honestly no better vehicle to serve George communities than GOOD.
“I am 100% committed to our task of distinguishing our party from others by putting the interests of the community first.
GOOD remains steadfast in its pursuit of a fairer South Africa characterised by economic, spatial, environmental and social justice for all – including for all the people of George.
