GOOD Statement by Shaun August

20 January 2023
The GOOD party in the Western Cape welcomes the provincial matric pass rate of 81.4% for the class of 2022, up by 0.2%.
The marginal increase does however reflect the many challenges that still exist in our provincial education system that a great majority of learners are exposed to. Despite all the shortcomings and unexpected disruptions, this group still managed to power through and achieved an excellent overall pass mark.
Considering that this class was Grade10 when the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent national lockdown hit South Africa, they remained resilient and strong even when the education sector basically came to a complete halt.
This was not an easy achievement, and our wish is that these learners continue to show this resilience and dedication as they pursue their respective fields of interest and prospective opportunities.
Many learners also stand disappointed as some were not successful in their matric examinations and we would like to remind those learners that this is not the end of the road. There are many possibilities that exists to set them on the path to a successful future.
We implore the Western Cape government to strengthen and further develop mechanisms to give all learners, both successful and not, the necessary support in their communities to keep them on track for a brighter future. We all need to do what we can to assist our youth and avoid them falling prey to criminal activities and gangsterism.
We trust that the class of 2022 will contribute positively towards various sectors of society and our collective effort in building a functional Western Cape Province for all who live in it.
