GOOD Statement by Ashwill Oktober,

GOOD Oudtshoorn Councillor & MMC for Community Services

06 August 2026

GOOD Oudtshoorn remains committed to stability, good governance, and the delivery of quality services to the people of Oudtshoorn, particularly the poor and vulnerable communities who rely on an effective and accountable local government.

Our participation in the coalition has always been based on a commitment to good governance, transparency, accountability, and service delivery. We are not in government in pursuit of positions; we are in government in pursuit of service.

We appreciate that our coalition partners took our concerns regarding dishonest and alleged corrupt conduct seriously. It was untenable to continue claiming a commitment to good governance while the Mayor remained under a cloud regarding the travel claim matter.

We therefore acknowledge and appreciate the ANC’s decision to replace the Mayor in the interest of restoring public confidence.

GOOD will not be treated as sheep or merely as voting fodder. Our decision to vote with the opposition was not based on any agreement or arrangement with them, but solely on the principle of good governance and accountability. Our loyalty is to the residents of Oudtshoorn and to the values that GOOD represents.

We welcome the commitment made by the leaders of our coalition, who met and agreed that the coalition must refocus on service delivery and the needs of our communities. We also appreciate that GOOD’s grievances were heard and accepted, paving the way for a stronger and more accountable coalition.

GOOD Oudtshoorn remains committed to working constructively with all coalition partners who share our vision of ethical leadership, accountable government, and improved service delivery. Our focus remains on building a stable municipality that puts the interests of the people first.
