The GOOD leadership welcomes the election of GOOD Councillor Katriena Robyn as Executive Mayor of Witzenberg Municipality today.
“Trienie” as she is known to her community, comes in with a wealth of experience in local government and will no doubt provide excellent leadership in Witzenberg.
She has previously served as a Mayoral Committee Member, a Deputy Mayor and the Executive Mayor.
Cllr Robyn recently filled GOOD’s vacant seat after former GOOD Councillor Felicity Klazen, who served as Witzenberg Deputy Mayor, was expelled from GOOD following an internal disciplinary process.
Despite GOOD doing the right thing by removing Klazen, and bringing in a respectable candidate, the DA unilaterally broke the coalition.
This left a need for a new government to be formed and for a capable candidate to step in to restore stability in the Municipality.
We appreciate that our new coalition partners understand the need for the most experienced candidate to lead, in order to urgently improve service delivery and ensure clean governance for the community.
Over the years, Robyn has shown nothing but commitment and integrity in her work for the people of Ceres, Tulbagh, Wolseley, Op-die-Berg and Prince Alfred’s Hamlet.
South Africa desperately needs stable municipalities, with leadership rooted in respect for democracy and service delivery. It is unfortunate that in some cases, and with some coalition partners like the DA, this is not the case.
Those who subscribe to GOOD values will never be bought by the DA or anyone else flashing cash for votes, as we have seen the DA do this week.
GOOD, along with the new-elected Mayor, remains steadfast in our goal to provide leadership that can build a better and more equitable society for all South Africans, including the residents of Witzenberg.
