GOOD Statement by Grant Pascoe,
GOOD National Campaign Manager
21 June 2022
The GOOD Party’s candidates for the upcoming by-elections in George are ready to fight for those who put their trust in us, and continue our mission to demand equal service delivery in the Municipality.
The by-elections in Ward 20, 16, and 27 are set to take place on the 19 July 2023.
Vacancies were declared in the first two wards when councillors Neville Louw and Theresa Jeyi betrayed the wishes of those who elected them as GOOD ward councillors, and joined the DA.
Councillor Richard Hector, who we maintain never resigned in Ward 27, was forced out by George’s DA speaker.
GOOD applied for an urgent interdict to stop the by-election from going ahead, while the court would then decide if the resignation was valid. Unfortunately the interdict was not granted and GOOD stands ready to defend Hector and return him as the community of Pacaltsdorp’s choice for ward councillor.
Ward 20: Rosa Louw
Rosa currently serves as a PR councillor in George, but has a long record of serving the residents of Ward 20. She is stepping forward to continue to do so as the ward councillor. She was instrumental in helping GOOD win the ward and that is when the DA, as the government in George, chose to sabotage service delivery to the people of Borchards.
When Rosa is elected as Ward Councillor we will not collude with the DA government and allow them to get away with the sewerage and water issues that have been left to persist. Nor will we stand by whole no aid is given to pensioners who live in ghastly conditions.
The DA’s sudden activity in the area is purely politics – they don’t care about the people that live here, they care about their votes and they used former councillor Neville Louw to sabotage services.
GOOD is ready to win this ward once more and further our equal service delivery agenda.
Ward 16: Naellowine “Elsa” Esau
“Elsa”, as she is known in her community, knows full well how the DA continues to divide George. As a former ambassador for the Go George bus service, she saw first hand how residents in Pacaltsdorp were excluded from the network. A key part of her campaign for Ward 16 is to bring residents closer to economic opportunities.
For too long, DA and FF+ overlords have dictated the lives of residents – but the people have woken up. They voted for GOOD in 2021, and they’ll vote for GOOD again in 2023. Their votes are not for sale.
Elsa is the no nonsense candidate we need to reclaim Ward 16.
Ward 27: Richard Hector
Richard is known to his community as “Yster”, and for good reason. He served as ward 27’s councillor for over 3 years – and in that time he’s refused to accept the DA’s “colour coded” approach to service delivery.
When Pacaltsdorp taxi operators had to make way for the Go George bus service in 2015, he took the DA-led municipality and province to the High Court. He won the case with costs.
His continued challenges against the municipality’s maladministration has seen the DA drag him to council disciplinary committees multiple times – but none of these desperate cases have stuck. There are no cases against Richard, just trigger happy “blue liars” who can’t accept the truth about their segregation styled service delivery.
The DA may think that they have removed the thorn in their side, but Richard is ready to pierce again when he wins ward 27 for a second time.
GOOD will once again ask voters in these wards to lend the party their votes – and, should they prove disappointing, vote them out at the next opportunity.
