The GOOD Party in Drakenstein is calling for an urgent council investigation into allegations of corruption made against the executive mayor and members of his mayoral committee.
GOOD was shocked to learn that Mayor Conrad Poole is facing an internal DA investigation.
The Democratic Alliance often pretends to act as the moral compass of society and now their silence on this matter is deafening.
The DA has failed to be transparent about the process and take the residents of Drakenstein into its confidence.
Sources have revealed that Poole is facing allegations of a pay-for-jobs scheme.
Members of his executive are reportedly paying a monthly kickback to the mayor himself.
One of the MMCs is accused of spending thousands of rands to fund a private wedding for Poole’s family.
Poole and his executive oversea a R3.4 billion budget, it is imperative that we confirm their hands are clean.
GOOD has written to the speaker of the council to request an urgent investigation.
As the council, we have a duty to our electorate to root out malfeasance in the municipality.
If the mayor and members of his mayoral committee are involved in brown envelope dealings they must not be protected by their political party, they must face the full might of the law.
