George By-Election: GOOD Strongly Refutes Claims Of Intimidation By Its Members

GOOD Media Statement by Brett Herron,
GOOD Secretary-General & Member of Parliament

19 July 2023

DA Provincial Leader, Tertuis Simmers has accused myself (Brett Herron) and GOOD regional coordinator Donovan Saptoe of using “aggressive attempts to coerce a voter into signing a false affidavit”.

The GOOD party categorically denies these allegations.

It is GOOD’s belief that the intimidation was in fact by the DA’s very own, Sam Crowley.

Crowley prevented a young woman from signing her statement revealing voter registration fraud.

The GOOD Party met the young lady whilst looking into allegations of misconduct by DA canvassers ahead of the George by election.

According to the young woman, she arrived home in early June to find “a few DA canvassers at my home in DA t-shirts”. They asked if she was registered to vote and would be willing to vote again, to which she replied, yes. She later discovered she had been registered at an address she has never lived at.

The GOOD Party explained to her that her re-registration as a voter was a breach of the Municipal Electoral Act.

She willingly engaged with us and was happy to assist in submitting a statement to confirm the deceit.

During her engagement with us, Crowley arrived and began shouting at her.

It was in fact Crowley who created a hostile and intimidatory atmosphere causing the woman to cry.

We chose to leave without pursuing the statement further as the women was visibly upset by Crowley’s actions.

The full extent of the voter registration fraud in George has not fully been explored.

We will continue to support anyone willing to expose electoral misconduct.

The importance of an accurate voter’s roll is critical to free and fair elections.
