GEORGE BY-ELECTION: GOOD CALLS ON PARTIES TO ABIDE BY THE ELECTORAL CODE OR FACE CRIMINAL CHARGES

9 October 2024

GOOD Statement by Chantelle Kyd,
GOOD George Councillor

08 October 2024

The GOOD Party calls on opponents in the upcoming George by-election to play fair and abide by the Electoral Code of Conduct. On the 23rd of October, GOOD will be contesting the Ward 20 by-election in George.

Our candidate Lorencio Seconds ‘Popo’ is a dedicated family man and lifelong resident of George. Lorencio embodies our commitment to social justice.

Concerned members of the community have alerted GOOD to alleged improper conduct by other political parties. Witnesses claim that while other parties were hanging posters in the area, they purposefully cut off and removed GOOD posters.

Upon further inspection, we found that our posters had been removed in Anderson Street, Borcherds. The Electoral Code of Conduct, contained in the Electoral Act prohibits the destroying, removing or defacing posters of other parties.

The 2023 by-elections, in the same area, were plagued by allegations of electoral misconduct and voter registration fraud. As the Good Party, we hope history will not repeat itself. Should our opposition continue in this manner we will have no choice but to lay criminal charges.

GOOD is ready to win ward 20 once more and further our commitment to social justice and service delivery.
