The GOOD Party Ward 16 candidate, Naellowine “Elsa” Esau, has opened a case of assault (CAS 67/6/2023) in George following an incident which involved local DA canvassers.
A vacancy was declared in the ward after the former GOOD councillor, Theresa Jeyi, resigned and joined the DA last month, abandoning her GOOD values, as well as the promises she made to her community.
Since then, Jeyi, who is now the DA candidate in the ward, has tried to pressure our GOOD candidate to join her, even resorting to threatening Esau at her own home, backed up by her DA canvassers.
Despite Esau making it clear that she remains committed to GOOD and our values, Jeyi and the DA canvassers continued with their threatening behaviour with numerous attempts at intimidation and insults shouted at GOOD members during the past registration weekend.
Sadly, this has escalated to a point where Esau was assaulted by the canvassers, dressed in their blue t-shirts, last night. It’s understood the canvassers were on their way back from a local DA event when they approached Esau and her GOOD canvassers, and physical attacked them.
Apart from the criminal case, GOOD also demands that the provincial leadership of the DA call off their attack dogs, and call their own people to order.
This is a clear sign of how far the DA’s desperate campaign is willing to go in an attempt to win a political fight. It is also reflects the accepted values and principles within the DA.
GOOD will never engage in any violent activities and call on others to commit to doing the same.
Our focus remains on the community of George and our promises to fight for their upliftment and quality service delivery.
