GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY: GOOD PARTY SUPPORTS PRECAUTIONARY SUSPENSION OF SENIOR MUNICIPAL MANAGERS

GOOD Statement by Rosa Louw,
GOOD George Municipality Councillor

27 May 2025

The GOOD Party supports the precautionary suspension of Monde Stratu, the Garden Route District Municipality’s (GRDM) municipal manager, and John Daniels, head of GRDM’s roads department, as resolved at today’s Special Council Meeting.

The suspensions follow serious allegations of misconduct linked to the Roads Agency Function overseen by the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure.

Both individuals were afforded the opportunity to present reasons why they should not be suspended. While their representations were extensive and raised concerns about alleged unfair labour practices, the regulations governing disciplinary procedures for Senior Managers are clear and must be upheld.

The suspensions are a necessary step to ensure that the investigation can proceed in a fair, transparent, and unhindered manner. We call for urgent and decisive action to protect public funds and ensure that service delivery is not compromised. The roles occupied by the affected individuals are critical, especially at a time when the municipality is under severe financial pressure and requires strategic leadership more than ever.

GOOD stands for accountability and ethical leadership, and we will continue to advocate for processes that restore public trust and deliver real value to the communities we serve.
