DA ABANDONS LIBERAL PRETENCE AND SIGNS UP WITH XENOPHOBIA BRIGADE

7 October 2026

GOOD Statement by Brett Herron,

GOOD Secretary-General

07 October 2026

The DA’s mayoral candidate for Tshwane’s decision to lead an armed raid with private security forces to bust allegedly illegal immigrants, and then brag about it on social media, places the party in the same populist Whatsapp group as Afriforum, March and March and the MK Party.

Cilliers Brink, a former mayor of Tshwane, says that as a Peace Officer he has the right to demand that people show him their identity documents.

Brink hasn’t explained his sudden interest in illegal immigrants and occupied buildings, a month away from Local Government Elections, when he showed no such interest during his mayoral term of office.

Politically, Brink’s attention-seeking reveals another hard right turn in the Geordin Hill-Lewis led DA, and the final abandonment of the liberal principles embodied by the likes of the iconic Helen Suzman.

The State is responsible for managing immigration and must implement the laws of the country. Ceding law enforcement responsibilities to the likes of Cilliers Brink and March and March enables anarchy, vigilantism and conservative nationalism.
