STATEMENT BY BRETT HERRON, GOOD MEMBER OF THE WESTERN CAPE PROVINCIAL PARLIAMENT AND SECRETARY-GENERAL
COVID-19: ONE YEAR SINCE THE FIRST CASE IN THE WESTERN CAPE
WE MUST DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO PREVENT ANOTHER LOCKDOWN WHEN THE 3RD WAVE HITS US
As we look back on the year since our first covid 19 patient our number one priority right now is to manage this pandemic so that we can recover our lives.
The world has moved from managing the contagion through isolation to preventing contagion though medicine – the vaccine.
We must acknowledge medical science for the incredible progress made in developing a number of vaccine options so quickly.
Our government must be doing everything it can to prevent the need for another lockdown when the inevitable 3rd wave hits us.
We are also relying on our provincial government to work with the national vaccine programme to roll out of the vaccine swiftly and without defaulting to any political opportunism or competition.
We have lost 11 319 lives in the Western Cape. This is obviously devastating for so many families.
The Western Cape health professionals have done us proud.
We must thank them for the massive sacrifices they have made and for the risks they have taken to treat Covid-19 patients and to fight for every life.
It is up to everyone of us to respect the Covid-19 regulations, even when we don’t agree with them, since their sole purpose is to save lives.
Ends…
