The nepotism claims reported in Paarl Post (04 Sept 2025), made by a Drakenstein municipal employee, are concerning but not surprising. GOOD raised similar concerns in June this year, when a whistleblower revealed irregularities in the hiring process for general worker posts in the Social Development Department.

The GOOD Party welcomes the appointment of Sarah Helena Roberts as the new Western Cape Commissioner for Children. As a member of the Standing Committee that interviewed candidates for this vital role, it was clear to me, and to many others, that Roberts possesses the competence, integrity, and skills required to serve the children of our province with distinction.
The GOOD Party condemns the City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate for refusing to place the Dial-a-Ride crisis on the agenda of tomorrow’s Portfolio Committee on Urban Mobility. Instead of urgently addressing the service cuts already affecting hundreds of residents with severe mobility impairments, the committee has scheduled the matter for discussion only in October, a full month after the City’s own 8 September suspension and restriction of the service takes effect.

The leaked video of a senior Human Resources Manager at the Stellenbosch Municipality, in which he implies that the Municipality should stop appointing white males and should “get rid” of those already employed by any means necessary, is deeply disturbing.
The GOOD Party is deeply concerned by Burkina Faso’s regressive amendments to its Persons and Family Code, passed by the country’s transitional Parliament on 2 September 2025. These amendments criminalise same-sex relations, marking a dangerous step backwards for human rights on the African continent.
