BY ELECTIONS – GOOD MAINTAINS GROWTH STREAK

10 December 2020

The GOOD Party has again shown strong growth in by-elections in the Southern Cape.

After taking its first council seat in George last month where we’re proving to becoming the alternative to the ANC and DA, yesterday in Dysselsdorp we came close to taking a second – and the party performed very credibly in an Oudtshoorn ward, too.

One thing stand out: Southern Cape voters have lost faith in the DA. They feel taken for granted and so desperate for change in their communities that they were even prepared to vote for the ANC.

Nowhere was this more starkly demonstrated than in Dysselsdorp, a community engaged in a bitter struggle against poverty and government neglect. Here, the ANC snatched the ward off the DA, and GOOD forced the DA into a lowly third place.

GOOD, at less than two-years-old, has become a serious factor. Each by-election it contests is an opportunity to sharpen its skills and organisation. Next year’s local government elections will see entire municipalities changing hands.

For voters who feel betrayed by the old parties, GOOD’s constructive and inclusive organisational approach is a fresh breeze to help blow the corrupt and/or verkrampte politicians out of power – and where they manage to cling on, to hold them to account.

GOOD is very grateful to all who have placed their trust in the party. Our work will continue until the job is done.

* In Ward 10, Dysselsdorp, the ANC secured 42%, GOOD 27% and the DA 21% of the vote. GOOD also fielded candidates in Wards 4 and 5, in Oudtshoorn, and in Ward 115, Cape Town.

Ends…
