GOOD: National Organiser & Member of Western Cape Provincial Parliament

GOOD notes the changes made to the Western Cape Provincial Cabinet following a series of scandals and a growing need for the provincial government to get its act together in the interests of the people of the Western Cape.
We further note that this Cabinet might be the weakest one we have seen since the DA took control of the province in 2009. This newest cabinet is characterised by unqualified and inexperienced individuals who are charged with addressing some of the most complex socio-economic issues faced by the people of this province.
We hope that this cohort will surprise us and begin to address the spatial, economic and social injustices that have persisted for decades. This is what the people of this Province deserve.
Premier Alan Winde heralded the formation of new departments in his 2022 SoPA to expedite services and growth for the people of the Western Cape. We wait with bated breath for these changes to bring that intention to fruition. The changes are cosmetic and designed to provide a fresh appearance to a crumbling facade.
We welcome the resignation of Debbie Schafer who has arguably presided over the greatest decline in Western Cape education. We hope that David Maynier will do a better job.
We hope that with the new appointment of Reagan Allen as MEC for Community Safety and Police Oversight that impactful solutions for safety and security will reach those communities who are desperate for working solutions to decrease crime. We call on Minister Allen to reign in the rogue and unlawful policing units operated by the City and partially funded by his department’s budget.
We look forward to engaging this newly-configured Western Cape government and we will pull no punches in holding it to account.
