Statement by Sam Shabane, GOOD National Chairperson
ACCUSED JOZI MAYOR MUST GET OUT OF TOWN
18 May 2021
The allegations at the Zondo commission that Mayor of Johannesburg Geoff Makhubo received money from a company contracted to the city while serving as an MMC are too serious to be left to the slow-turning and over-burdened wheels of justice.
The Gauteng Province should urgently set up an independent investigation and the mayor should step down from his position until the investigation is completed.
South Africans in general, and residents of Johannesburg, in particular, are sick and tired of corrupt elected representatives and incompetent managers who are unable to manage the services and money in their care.
Between them, ANC and DA administrations have run the City of Gold into the ground.
It is beyond disgusting to continuously witness people we should be able to trust accused of the most heinous crimes against the people. This, in a country where so many of our people live in utter destitution and poverty.
There must be consequences, not only for dirty politicians and officials, but also for companies that are guilty of paying bribes.
Without consequence management we’ll battle to ever fix South Africa.
