GOOD Statement by Patricia de Lille,
GOOD Leader & Minister of Tourism
24 April 2025
The GOOD Party welcomes the withdrawal of the 0.5% VAT hike. As a party, we have actively and constructively engaged in the process of finding a solution to the Fiscal Framework and budget. Working alongside the ANC and other parties committed to ensuring that South Africa’s budget protects those who rely on the state for services and support the most.
Throughout this process, we acted in good faith and with a clear focus: to safeguard critical social spending and to ensure that infrastructure investment, especially for underserved communities, is not compromised.
We welcome the fact that Parliament’s resolution to adopt the Fiscal Framework, along with the recommendation that the Minister of Finance urgently review the proposed VAT increase, has not only been heard but implemented with the urgency it demanded.
It is this recommendation, rooted in a genuine negotiation process and adopted by Parliament, that has brought us to the positive outcome we are able to announce and support today.
Let it be clear: today’s resolution is not the result of litigation or political grandstanding. It is the result of principled negotiation, collaboration, and a shared commitment to putting the people of South Africa first.
