“TACTICAL NAKEDNESS”: CITY OF CAPE TOWN MAYOR IS ONE BUNGLE AFTER ANOTHER
DA SHOULD REMOVE DAN PLATO
The DA likes to say “you get the government you deserve”. Usually they say this about ANC governments – blaming voters for complaining about the governments they voted for.
Cape Town has a government we definitely don’t deserve.
It is a government, led by an incompetent bungling Mayor and Mayoral Committee, who lack the ability to govern a complex diverse city grappling with rapid urbanisation, a climate that is changing rapidly and now a pandemic that has decimated lives and livelihoods.
Plato’s suggestion that Bulelani Qholani, pulled naked from his shack in an informal settlement by Cape Town law enforcement, staged being naked in order to prevent his eviction and the City’s destruction of his shack is yet another appalling lack of leadership.
Former Public Protector, and now Social Justice Chair at Stellenbosch University, Adv Thuli Madonsela correcty destroyed Plato’s “tactical nakedness” argument when she tweeted:
“It is worse if #BulelaniQolani tactically undressed himself. What democracy forces a man to strip naked to retain a roof over his head? What kind of law enforcement ethos prioritises public exposure of a man’s nakedness amid a biting winter over human dignity”
Plato is unfit to govern. He should resign or be removed by the DA.
Ends…
