GOOD wishes to Western Cape Premier Alan Winde during his Covid-19 isolation

Statement by Brett Herron, Secretary General for GOOD and Member of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature.

13 May 2020

—————–

GOOD wishes the Western Cape’s Premier, Alan Winde, a safe and productive isolation period following his exposure to Covid-19.  We also send our condolences to the friends, family and colleagues of Lungile Tom, ENCA cameraman, who tragically passed away after falling ill last week and being admitted to hospital on Sunday.

This, the second isolation period for the Premier, should serve as an alert to all residents of the Western Cape to take the Covid-19 pandemic seriously. Today the DA issued a call for Parliament to open up for business, but I recommend that they reconsider in light of their own Premier falling ill.  Many lives depend on each one of us taking the risk of illness and death seriously and being responsible for not only ourselves, but also for the others that we place at risk.

I appeal to every person – stay at home if you can; wherever possible, work at home or, if you cannot, practice extreme social distancing. Always, always wear your mask when you are out in public and make sure everyone does the same. The loss of any life is tragic and it is up to each one of us to stop the spread.
