Statement by Brett Herron, Member of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature and Secretary-General of GOOD.
5 March 2020

Premier Alan Winde has repeatedly promised to “match” any releases of public property that GOOD’s leader, Patricia de Lille, the National Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, releases to the Western Cape provincial government.
Now it’s time for Winde to make good on his promises.
Yesterday De Lille released the first of six buildings to be used for shelters for women and children who are victims of Gender-based violence. The buildings have been allocated to the Provincial Department of Social Development. National Public Works is carrying the cost of refurbishment and maintenance whilst the Province will be responsible for operational issues.
De Lille has been in her post for less than 10 months. The DA has led the Western Cape for more than 10 years.
There are 550 000 people on the Western Cape’s housing database.
Premier Winde, public land must be used for public good. It’s time for you to show us the land.
Ends…
