After weeks of turmoil wreaked in the George Council by DA leaders, today the DA was to face two motions of no confidence in their leadership of the municipality.
Instead of allowing a democratic process to unfold, the DA unilaterally and unlawfully cancelled the Council meeting scheduled for 10am this morning.
The actions of the Democratic Alliance in George this morning undermine democracy.
In seeking to hide from accountability and the two motions of No Confidence levelled against members of the DA-led George municipality, the DA locked councillors out of the Council chamber in a bid to prevent any accountability.
This is not democracy, it is a dictatorship. The voters elect councillors to be their voices in local government and the DA, in seeking to silence those voices and the accountability processes, are denying democracy to South Africa.
