*STATE OF THE PROVINCE ADDRESS AND DEBATE WILL BE HELD IN ROCKLANDS CIVIC CENTRE, MITCHELLS PLAIN*
Statement by Brett Herron, GOOD Member of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature
I welcome today’s announcement by the Speaker of the Western Cape Parliament granting my, and other opposition party representatives, requests for both the State of the Province Address (SOPA) and reply to SOPA be held in the same venue – closer to the communities that we serve – so that more people are able to participate in the process of government directly.
The Rocklands Civic Centre in Mitchells Plain is an iconic venue, critical to the fight for justice and the rise of opposition to unjust governments.
I look forward to SOPA being moved out of the parliamentary buildings and closer to the communities we serve and I am pleased that we will be able to hold this government to account through the reply to the SOPA now also being held in the same venue.
