GOOD Statement by Thyrone Williams,
GOOD Saldanha Bay Councillor
8 August 2024
The GOOD party calls on the Saldanha Bay Mayor to step in and resolve the ongoing dispute between residents of Steenbergs Cove and a local highway construction project.
Residents have been left frustrated by the ongoing project which has disrupted their access rights and property boundaries.
The town plan, created by the company, NEWCO, and approved by the Saldanha Bay Municipality (SBM), was meant to protect this.
However, the construction company has ignored these agreements and caused serious problems for the community. Despite several meetings and protests, no real solutions have been offered.
The Province and SBM have opted to play the blame game with each other for the mess, while legal steps taken by the company against the protesting residents have just made things worse.
The community is demanding immediate action from Mayor Andre Truter.
They want the original commitments around property access to be honoured and an independent mediator to help resolve the issues fairly.
The rights and concerns of residents cannot simply be pushed aside while big construction companies do as they please.
